Sugar is addictive, as covered in a previous post.
When sugar is combined with fat and salt it sets off pleasure sensors in our brains that make us want to consume more.
The name for these foods is called “hyper-palatable.”
Liquid calories never fill you up. They can certainly fatten you up: a coke can have as much as 120+ grams of sugar in it. When you combine this with an unhealthy meal, it’s very easy to overconsume calories which leads to weight gain and overlook your own health.
Liquid calories can also encourage you to eat more.
If you drink sugary beverages, it can produce a response in your brain that encourages your body to create more insulin to handle all of the excess sugar.
More often than not, your body creates too much insulin, which can lead to a sugar crash, and thus your body then sends signals of wanting more of it and the cravings start back up again.
Liquid calories have also no nutritional value.
Now you know that how liquid calories are sabotaging your weight loss efforts.
P.S.: Today’s post is just a reminder to all, that losing weight to achieve your goals is only a subset of self-care.
Don’t be afraid, just make the dive.
